Details:
Henry Johnston per ship John, assigned to Archibald Bell, charged with disobedience and neglect of duty....Samuel Owens states - I am overseer to Mr. Bell; the prisoner is employed as a shepherd; On Saturday week last he came home with his sheep at night and brought in his pocket the ear of a sheep which he said had died in the bush. The shepherds have positive orders to bring home the carcase of any of the sheep that may die in the bush. I sent him on Sunday morning to bring the sheep home which he did with one of its legs broken and severely bruised about the shoulders. The prisoner would have been brought to court last court day only it would have been attended with considerable inconvenience. The prisoner states in his defence - He is in charge of a young flock of sheep; he found the sheep lying dead; he was not able to drive the flock and carry the sheep. Upon a former occasion I carried a sheep and the flock got away from me…..The Bench find the prisoner Henry Johnston, guilty of neglect and sentence him not to be recommended for a ticket of leave until six months after he becomes due.
